Date: Mon, 14 Oct 1996 19:13:26 +1000 (EST) From: Timothy Ferguson Duke Corneus -- (c) 1996 Tim Ferguson - - - - - - Corneus is included here to give a glimpse at that generation of knights who preceed Ulfius, Uriens and Lot. His statistics can substititue for those of his son Derfel, with some modifications. Corneus is a veteran of many wars who appears, already battle-scarred, on the Council of Regents in 495. His lands are supposedly the richest in Logres, but most of their wealth must be spent continually skirmishing with the Saxons who occupy all of his land to the east of the Roman road and who roam his countryside in marauding bands. He is a supporter of the Pendragons because they can bring the whole force of the Cymri to bear against the invaders. His brightest moment is when he masterminds a ploy which allows the peasants of London to slaughter the Saxon garrison there. He fades from the stories in about 510, although the manner of his death is not certain. He may be one of the early casualties of Arthur's wars against the Rebel kings. His sons, Derfel and Lucan, are loyal servants of the "Pendragon". Bedivere might also be his son. =============================================================================== INSERT Corneus's skills. Corneus is unfamiliar with the French customs that Arthur will introduce to the realm. He has no skill at Tourney, as he is too busy fighting real wars to allow his men to injure each other in mock battles. He uses Recognise instead of Heraldry, as individual coats of arms have yet to fully develop. He has no Romance score, relying instead on luck and flirtation. His body is rather withered from age. He has a high Battle skill and is one of the finest fighters with the Short Sword anywhere in the world. These are the fruits of a mis-spent youth, fighting in the street-gangs of noble boys which formed in Lincolnshire. In battle he prefers the axe to the sword, a habit he has acquired from his hated enemies. He is Just and Valourous, with an unmatched love for his city. His warhorse is only a charger, as that is the best available at the time of his death.
