Why do computers cause carpal tunnel syndrome but typewriters don't?

Blame technology. The fact that typing seems easier than
ever before has actually contributed to the increase in
carpal tunnel syndrome.

Anyone who has ever worked on an "old fashioned" typewriter
knows that there's more involved than just typing. The
carriage had to be returned at the end of every line, and
the paper was changed after every page. Add that to
stopping to use corrective fluid on every mistake and it's
easy to see why there weren't as many problems with
repetitive motion.

With computers, pages never end. You just keep typing away
with fewer changes in position, leading to increased
pressure on the tendons in your carpal tunnel.
