I am Daedalus and I have Awakened.
Awakening is not something that just happens to you, like getting hit on the head with an apple. It is something that is achieved. Now I'm not saying the apple doesn't help, but that won't do it alone. The understanding comes from within and once it happens there is no going back. You can't bring back the Easter Bunny and static reality just took the last train out of here.
The only problem with this is that most of the time you happen to be standing on the tracks when that train leaves the station. There is nothing trivial about it. That's when life really starts. I guess calling the unawakened sleepers works, but I prefer the term end-user. Most people treat reality like and application that they received in some pretty colored box that suggests you should have at least 16 Megs of Ram and a mouse, but it is more than that. Reality is more like an operating system. It's got systems calls, commands, and one hell of a user interface. But the real power comes when you figure out how to decompile it. I can't even begin to tell you what I would give to get a look at the source. I am not sure who actually wrote it, but he was one hell of a hacker, by the real definition. That's one incredible piece of code.
When it comes right down to it, there is one thing that matters - Information. That's what the world is. You can use it as is, or roll up your sleeves and start hacking. You don't like the way something works, then change it. But be warned. Reality is one complex piece of code, scratch that, the most complex piece. It's got error checking, security, and plenty of threads and processes. This means that hacking the system is not easy. If you screw up you can get burned. One of the major ways is called paradox. Remember that error checking, well you're part of the program and bogus code gets fixed. Personally I'd rather try to avoid being fixed and when you mess with the code to much, that's what happens. The more blatant you are, the more of a chance that some daemon will notice and decide to do something about. Subtle is the key, but sometimes there is not time for subtlety and you've just got to bite the bullet and hope that someone has a back up copy of you.
Mankind has been doing magic since the dawn of time, ever since some guy discovered fire. Maybe that was the first hack. The secret is paradigms. It's sort of ironic that it is the end-users that are writing most of the code. The world's interface is determined by a consensus of what mankind believes. There was a time when we believed in unicorns, and at the time there probably were. Now we believe in electricity and Boolean logic. Thank the Maker for Franklin, Babbage, Turing, and Bell. They were some of the great pioneers of mankind. Through them and others like them, cyberspace was created. It's where you and I meet when we have a conversation over the phone. It's a realm where we can learn and break old perceptions. Information is incarnate and position is irrelevant. It's a part of this world and at the same time not. It is the future and it is expanding as we speak. One day the net and 3space will merge, but to do that, the sleepers will have to wake up. We can teach them what is possible with the web and once they understand, that knowledge can be applied to earth.
The process has already begun. People think nothing of picking up the phone and speaking to someone halfway across the world. We see people on TV a million miles away. You turn on the radio and hear a concert in another state. All the world is up for the taking. But taking is not enough. The ultimate ascension is to create.
