 (Julie Hough)

Well, I’ve been right so far. It has been a long day, and it isn’t even dark yet! This morning I found out that they had decided to give the weather Machine to Master Porthos. I’m not too happy about this, but they seem pretty determined, and there is not much I can do. I’ll just have to call Forteau and hope I can reach him. If not, oh well, I tried, but I am not going to miss tonight’s fun because I don’t think they are giving the Machine to the right person. Anyway, I’ll be surprised if the darn thing is there anyway. They way it seems to keep disappearing and such, we’ll probably get caught in another drug bust or something. After most everyone left to do stuff to prepare, I tried calling Forteau’s, but unfortunately there was no answer. Then Reuben came out of his room, and I asked him what he was going to do. He said he had to go to Forteau’s but I couldn’t go with him because all he had was his bike. So I had to stay at the Chantry bored out of my skull as Reuben and Dog left for Forteau’s. So I tried to come up with a Halloween costume, and then the phone rang. It was Reuben, and he said something was wrong with Forteau, and he needed help. He said there was a battle going on in the Umbra and Forteau was involved in it somehow, but the figures were too far away for him to see clearly. So then Reuben talked to Daedalus and he goes to Forteau’s but can’t take me because he needs to drive Reuben around or something, and besides I’m on crutches and he just can’t take me on the bike that far. I tried convincing him I could help, but Daedalus just didn’t seem convinced, it could be dangerous he said and he didn’t want me hurt or some such nonsense. Fine, think I’m useless. You’ll see. So I do convince him to drop me off on campus so I’m not totally bored out of my skull. I just kinda wandered about campus, with no real purpose in mind, and then finally sat under my favorite tree, one of the really big oaks near the library, when the beeper went off. It was Daedalus, and they needed my help. Ha! I told him so. Anyway, he picked me up and we rode to Forteau’s, and this time we made it. I get to Forteau’s and look into the Umbra and sure enough, I see the battle going on, only I notice it is not Forteau fighting someone else, but Forteau fighting Forteau! Hmm, that’s bad. I look at their auras and see they have radically different auras, but that really didn’t help much. So I looked at Forteau’s physical body, and his aura is really pale, and all the quintessence in the area is being funneled through his body. But if he is in the Umbra, why is his body out here? Reuben had no idea, and Daedalus just doesn’t understand the spirit world, so he was no help either. So we were at a loss as to what to do. It was then getting late in the afternoon, like 4ish, so Daedalus decides he needs to get back, and I figure I’m not going to be much more help here, and Reuben and Dog stay behind to do whatever they can. So Daedalus and I leave Reuben with Daedalus’s number in case anything happens, and we get on his bike and leave. As we are returning home, I had the creepiest feeling, like something was hunting me. I was really jumpy, and was glad Daedalus drives really fast, because the sooner I got off I-40 the better. Then we just barely missed being in a really bad 3 car accident, we drove past it, and the creepy feeling went away. That really bothers me, because I have to wonder who or what would be hunting me and why they want to kill me by getting me into an accident. Obviously they don’t want to be traced (I’ve watched enough X-Files to know about these things, plausible denial and all that) but why do they want to kill me? And they almost succeeded the other day. Scary. I’ll have to keep my eyes open. And why on I-40? Wonder where else this happens? Unfortunately, to find out we would probably get in a car accident, and that would be bad, especially on Daedalus’s bike. Glad they missed. Creepy.

We got back to the Chantry around 6ish, and most everyone was back. Renee looked really weird, she had grown fangs and made her skin paler and was wearing black, which she never wears. I guess she’s supposed to look like a vampire, and since I have no idea what a real vampire looks like, her rendition is as good as any. Wolfie stepped out of the Umbra and gave her a really funny look. I don’t think he was convinced either. Then suddenly, my back felt funny, and I sprouted wings! I now have these really cool gossamer fairy wings. And Daedalus said paradox was bad. I now have a really cool costume, my paisley top I was wearing (since it now has holes in it for the wings) and I changed into my bright yellow leggings, because they clash nicely with the paisley. Then Renee told me she could fix my foot, and she did something and cut herself and then I was healed! It was sooo cool! I started dancing around the Chantry, wings trailing behind me. Then I decided to try the new stuff I had been studying, since it was Halloween, maybe I could now step sideways. And I could! So I walked to where the living room was and popped out of the Umbra and yelled boo. No one seemed impressed. Oh well, it was fun anyway. And I noticed there were these creepy little creatures in the Umbra, Wolfie said they were goblins, and they create mischief on Halloween, and I should be careful because they can be dangerous. So we are finalizing our plans before we meet Ogre and Betsy and them at 10 at the Bell Tower. Wolfie and I are going to travel there in the Umbra, I’m going to ride on his back. It should be really cool riding a wolf. I’ve never done that before. As a matter of fact, I don’t know anyone who’s ridden a wolf. I rode a horse once, but I imagine it will be different. I’m looking forward to it. And Wolfie should scare away the goblins, so I won’t have to worry about them. Well, it’s almost time to leave. Should be interesting....
