What Has Gone Before, Book II, Chapter 5: "Old MacDonald Had a Farm"

A continuing history of Triangle Accension
Last modified: Fri Sep 25 1998

Those of you who are just coming into the story of Triangle Ascension may be put off by the large amount of information to be found on these web pages. These files are intended to be a short summary of the action up to this point, and will be updated every week or two.

The Setting

Our story takes place in the Research Triangle area of North Carolina, USA, including Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill. With few exceptions, all geographic places mentioned actually exist. Our group began gaming in September of 1996; Book II begins about six months after the end of Book I, May 29, 1998 (which actually puts us slightly into the future in terms of game-play, but we figure we'll catch up soon enough).

The Characters

You can read more about the individual characters by clicking on their names. Book II marks a major turning point, when many of the characters we have grown to love leave us for greener pastures. Many of the Triangle Ascension players chose to start over with new characters at the end of Book I. After all, once you've been to the beginning of the universe and back, you can't just go to Disneyworld.

Alex Bander, Euthanatos

David Fields, Order of Hermes

Glen Johnson, Akashic Brother

Kasee, Orphan

Rachel Montgomery, Celestial Chorus

Sara Langley, Orphan

The Story

Book II, Chapter 5: "Old MacDonald Had a Farm"

Maintainer's note - The first half of the 09/13 gaming session is the last portion of Book II, Chapter 4.

Tuesday 9/8/98

Competition for resources has become even fiercer, the camp has lost four scouts and used lots of ammunition on trips. People are becoming crack shots by necessity, bullets are a very valuable commodity.

A large farm is found in north Durham with crops untouched in the fields. This must be too good to be true. It is surrounded by chained fenced in woods marked No Trespassing and is accessed by a dirt road hidden by military type camoflage netting. The buildings are uninhabited by any people or animals, and there are bloodstains, bullet holes, and claw marks decorating the floor and walls. However, this is a great opportunity, and the decision is made to move. Nobody has evidenced any ill effects from eating food brought back from the farm. Several weeks are needed to bus/van/u-haul people and supplies from the camp to the farm, using most of the available gas.

Satin confirms that Rachel has been "regular" and walks off as Rachel tries to find out what's going on. Of the 50% of camp which are female, five are now acknowledged pregnant. Satin spends her last days before the move staring at the scorched symbols on the quad, dancing on the symbols, and crying.

Tuesday 9/29/98

There has been a definite stratification to the camp's activities. There is now a definate "soldier" class, and Gabriel's training is ruthless, the soldiers become very efficient. At one point during the move from campus to farm a bus was stopped by a roadblock. The people manning the roadblock obviously hadn't eaten in a while, and looked like animals. They never made it to the bus. The soldiers riding on top of the bus didn't flinch, didn't miss, and were very efficient removing the bodies. Neither did the people on the bus flinch.

Rachel has been holding daily sermons, so there hasn't actually been much for Michael to do. David has been taking care of physical needs, and Gabriel has become his Lieutenant. Rachel has taken care of spiritual needs, Amethyst has been herding the workers, Satin takes care of carnal needs, and Glen hangs out with the scouts. Scouting at the farm has become mostly soldiers on patrol. David establishes an emergency alert system of runners and torches. There is a bee farm which has not swarmed away yet. The animals are gone or dead, and there's blood in the stables where the horses were.

Glen tries to contact his Avatar and Billy, neither respond.

Wednesday 10/14/98

A pole pavilion has been established for shelter from the rain. Sites have been chosen for outbuildings, but there is no hewn lumber yet to use.

Runners sprint up to the main farmhouse, carrying strange news. A large group of people walked up to the road, walked out to the camouflage, and pulled it aside. The sentries came out to stop them, and suddenly got out of the way.

The entourage walks up the road to the farmhouse, and splits. A woman walks forward. It is the Indian from Satin's prophecy vision. She has a light in her eyes and a smile on her face, and she is wearing the clothes Satin last saw her in.

End of game session

Notes for the session:

The north Durham forest by the farm was home to Garou, Technocracy created creatures, Sluagh, and vampires for a while, not to mention many other creatures not seen by mankind.
