What Has Gone Before, Book II, Introduction: "Starting over"

A continuing history of Triangle Accension
Last modified: Mon Mar 30 10:13:35 EST 1998

Those of you who are just coming into the story of Triangle Ascension may be put off by the large amount of information to be found on these web pages. These files are intended to be a short summary of the action up to this point, and will be updated every week or two.

The Setting

Our story takes place in the Research Triangle area of North Carolina, USA, including Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill. With few exceptions, all geographic places mentioned actually exist. Our group began gaming in September of 1996; Book II begins about six months after the end of Book I, May 29, 1998 (which actually puts us slightly into the future in terms of game-play, but we figure we'll catch up soon enough).

The Characters

You can read more about the individual characters by clicking on their names. Book II marks a major turning point, when many of the characters we have grown to love leave us for greener pastures. Many of the Triangle Ascension players chose to start over with new characters at the end of Book I. After all, once you've been to the beginning of the universe and back, you can't just go to Disneyworld.

Alex Bander, Euthanetos

Cab, Dreamspeaker

Glen Johnson, Akashic Brother

Kasee, Orphan

Rachel Montgomery

Reuben Cabot, Dreamspeaker

Sara Langley, Orphan

The Story

Book II, Introduction: "Starting over"

Six months have passed since the group split up. Walks All Paths joined the werewolf pack, soon becoming their leader. His stature rose sharply when he was finally honorably mated with Renee. Kevin never meant to settle down with a group permanently, and with the adventure seemingly over, hit the road in search of his new destiny. Erik's mentor offered him a position as a research assistant, which he quickly accepts, anxious to return to his studies. Cab also returned to her mentor, but found that the student had become the teacher. Reuben returned to Forteau, but I will tell you of that later. Kasee lived on the street.

Six months have passed, but a new story had begun. Kasee saw her aunt (remember her? Kasee thought she was dead.) walking on Duke campus. Kasee being Kasee, she followed, teleporting herself into the building her aunt had entered. Kasee being Kasee, she teleported past the first locked door she found. Of course she was spotted by two guards, dressed all in black (though not Men In Black mind you), and Kasee being Kasee she ran (well teleported) out of there as fast as she could. But she couldn't shake the image of that long hall with all the doors, and the two guards in front of one oh-so-interesting door. And of course the image of the very large guns they seemed to carry. Shaped like pistols, but much bigger. Oh, yes, and Kasee being Kasee, she botched and teleported wherever Fate would take her (and of course passed out).

Speaking of Fate, what's the chances that an Akashic Brother, running from a cult would pick up a Euthanatos hickhiker? Better than you'd think. Actually, just about the same chances that an Orphan, randomly teleporting, would show up unconscious in the back seat. I love characters with too much Entropy...

So Glen (Akashic), Alex (Euthanatos), and Kasee (Dangerous) are on the road towards Sara. Well, actually, Sara's uncle. You see, Sara's uncle is an Akashic Brother himself, and has been instrumental in the Awakening of Sara, though she Awakened as an Orphan, only receiving her uncle's training through letters and checks for karate lessons. Anyway, her uncle is gone, and he left his house near Durham to Sara, and she took it, but Glen doesn't know that. He thinks he's going to see a friend of his Master's. You have to admit, it's still better than "they all meet in a bar..." Oh, and of course when Kasee starts babbling about Technocracy with guns and hidden labs, Glen and Alex decide to keep her. You'll have to read their diaries for more insight into the bizarre personalities that would come to *that* decision.

Back in Durham itself, Rachel and Rebuen are running into each other. I'll tell you about that later, too.

On the recommendation of of Alex's mentor (who happens to be a EMT), Glen and Alex take Kasee to the vet to see "Dr. Doolittle." Yes, the vet. Rumor is that Dr. Doolittle is almost mystical in his healing ability... When they explain their story, the "doctor" agrees to see their new friend. Reuben is not suprised that the friend is Kasee. He helps her (once again), and agrees to come meet the other mages at Sara's house. When Cab hears, she comes too, and Rachel. And so, the whole party is together once again (yeah!)

Kasee tells her tail (er...tale, did I mention Kasee picked up a permanent tail during a paradox backlash?), and the group agrees to help her investigate what has happened to her aunt (some are more agreeable than others). They set off for Duke.
