To prepare you for the next earth quake in your area, we have assigned the following action items to YOU.
- Establish an Out-of-State contact person who would act as a link between you and your family.
- Start accumulating the supplies mentioned in the checklist for your home, car and work.
- Establish a messaging service, like the free 800 voicemail service provided by Yahoo. This would come in handy in case you are separated from your loved one or room-mate in the aftermath of an earthquake.
- Secure VCRs, DVD Players, wall hangings, photo frames etc with velcro so that they don't become lethal weapons during an earthquake.
- Keep some emergency cash and coins (for payphones) handy at your home, work and car.
- Understand the seismic nature of the area you live in, the faults in your area etc. Your nearest public library may have books and videos about it.
- Discuss earthquake preparedness with your family and friends.
- Practice DROP, COVER, AND HOLD ON at least twice a year.
