Velcro.

Keep books in lockable cupboards and keep the cupboards closed securely.

Keep a pair of sturdy walking shoes to use in the event you have to walk
back home after an earth quake.

Keep a flash light, battery operated radio, new spare batteries, food bars
and a whistle (to seek attention).

DROP, COVER, AND HOLD ON during the quake.

Public event or at a Stadium

Don't start running to the exist along with rest of the public to avoid
getting caught in a stampede.

Hang tight to the chair or any near by support and ride the quake.

After shaking is over, hang on for some more time and leave when you think
its safe.

Indoor Theatre

When you enter the theatre, get an idea of how the theatre is laid out.

When the quake begins, don't rush to the exit. Stay where you are.

Get down low and get against the seat and hold tightly to it. Seats are
bolted to the foundation.

After the shaking stops, hang on for some time and leave when safe.

Watch for hazards as you leave.

Always walk closer to the side walls of the stores.

When you hear the quake, duck inside the nearest store. You can deal with
clothes falling on you better than the walkways in the corridor.

Although smaller than the main shock, aftershocks cause additional damage
and maybring weakened structures down.

Aftershocks can occur in the first hours, days, weeks, or even months after
the quake.
