Before you begin installation of your Cisco product, make sure to read the FCC and other regulatory material, including the safety and site preparation section, either in the User Guide, Installation Guide, Installation and Configuration Guide, Public Network Certification document, or the Regulatory Compliance and Safety Information document that accompany your order.
For your safety, Cisco includes translated safety warnings with each chassis.

Cisco's commitment to your success has led to an extensive family of services, all easily customized to suit the specific needs of your organization, and scalable to grow as your networks grow.
Cisco Connection Online (CCO) is Cisco Systems' primary, real-time support channel. Maintenance customers and partners can self-register on CCO to obtain additional information and services.
Available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, CCO provides a wealth of standard and value-added services to Cisco's customers and business partners. CCO services include product information, product documentation, software updates, release notes, technical tips, the Bug Navigator, configuration notes, brochures, descriptions of service offerings, and download access to public and authorized files.
CCO serves a wide variety of users through two interfaces that are updated and enhanced simultaneously: a character-based version and a multimedia version that resides on the World Wide Web (WWW). The character-based CCO supports Zmodem, Kermit, Xmodem, FTP, and Internet e-mail, and it is excellent for quick access to information over lower bandwidths. The WWW version of CCO provides richly formatted documents with photographs, figures, graphics, and video, as well as hyperlinks to related information.
You can access CCO in the following ways:
For a copy of CCO's Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ), contact cco-help@cisco.com. For additional information, contact cco-team@cisco.com.
The Technical Assistance Center (TAC) is a world-wide direct link to Cisco's engineering support. The TAC consists of over 2,000 development engineers linked to you through a globally deployed network of 500 extensively trained engineers. Over one third of these engineers are Cisco Certified Internetworking Engineers, one of the industry's highest levels of accreditation. This technical support can be accessed through Cisco's network supported account, partner support, technical assistance, and critical account program teams 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
Cisco has also established technical assistance teams and testing laboratories around the world, linked with the latest in Internet technology, to ensure that you can reach skilled professionals. TAC centers are located in Sydney, Australia; San Jose, California; Raleigh, North Carolina; and Brussels, Belgium.
In the unlikely event that hardware needs to be replaced, Cisco has 8000 field engineers, a network of partner organizations, and global distribution centers to ensure that replacements happen in a timely manner.
This network of professionals includes almost 2,000 partner organizations dedicated to reselling Cisco technology as well as our global service partners including HP, IBM, NCR, FedEx, ITS, Intexo, and ADL. Leveraging our partner's existing infrastructures, we manage our cases remotely. With this model, we retain complete accountability for our customer relationships, and achieve world-class coverage and service delivery in over 100 countries.
Unlike other manufacturers who rely on hardware dominant solutions, Cisco is able to respond quickly to changes in your networking environment, providing low cost, immediate software updates, extending the life cycle of your hardware and, in fact, enhancing your hardware several times a year. If you are a Cisco maintenance contract customer, these upgrades are available without extra charge.
This preventive support is a consistent facet of Cisco's support offerings: provide solutions and advancements through the most accessible and flexible mechanism possible.
Cisco's suite of service offerings covers your needs from installation and configuration, through training and certification, to change management and migration. The list, and descriptions, of Cisco's set of service options is available through CCO, in the Services and Support section, or at the following URL:
http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/625/index.html
In some cases, as an alternative to maintenance support contracts, Cisco customers may elect to extend their warranties. Contact your account manager to establish which options are available to you.
Cisco offers a complete set of Cisco customer documentation and selected marketing material in a CD-ROM package. The CD-ROM package also includes updated bug information, which enables you to avoid problems or diagnose them more quickly. A free copy of the CD-ROM package ships with most Cisco products.
With the Cisco CD-ROM package, you can view, search, and print documentation on the following platforms with a CD-ROM drive: 68020, 68030, 68040, or PowerPC-based Macintosh systems, 80386SX or greater PCs, Sun SPARC systems, IBM RS/6000 workstations, and HP 9000 Model 700 or 800 systems.
The viewing application conforms to user interface standards for Microsoft Windows and the Macintosh, Motif, or OPEN LOOK on Sun SPARC systems and IBM RS/6000 workstations, and OpenView on HP 9000 Model 700 or 800 systems. The Documentation CD-ROM can be mounted on a file server and published across a network.
Hard-copy installation documentation also ships with each product. Additional copies of the documentation must be ordered and paid for separately.
Refer to the Cisco Product Catalog for complete titles and descriptions of Cisco's documentation.
This section provides information for first-time users of Cisco Systems products and product documentation. The "Learning About Internetworking" section describes Cisco documentation designed for those with a limited understanding of internetworking.

This section contains information about the documentation CD-ROM package, as well as a complete list of available Cisco printed documentation. Contact customer service to order documentation.
Cisco Systems provides two delivery programs: standard and express. The standard program delivers Cisco documentation on a worldwide basis, and the Cisco Systems Express program delivers documentation to the United States and Canada.
If you have comments on Cisco documentation, please complete the Documentation Comment Card in the middle of this booklet and drop it in the mail.
The documentation CD-ROM package contains all software, internetwork management, hardware, and supplemental Cisco technical documentation, including special-order documents, release notes, configuration notes, and software caveats on a set of CDs.
The Documentation CD is updated and shipped monthly. The Documentation CD options are listed in Table 1.
| Title | Document Order Number |

After a product is no longer offered for sale, you can obtain relevant documentation on the Documentation CD. For example, the Documentation CD contains documentation that supports Software Releases 8.3, 9.1, 9.14, 9.17, 9.21, and Cisco Internetwork Operating System (Cisco IOS) Release 10.0 and 10.1. Documentation for these software releases includes all publications in the original documentation sets.
You can order printed documentation in sets or individually. Documentation sets simplify the process of ordering documentation associated with your specific system. These sets are organized according to standard software (by release and product type), network management software, or special-order documentation. See Table 2 for a complete list of Cisco documentation sets.
Note that some publications must be ordered individually including the following:

Standard Cisco IOS software documentation sets include documents considered essential to software use and implementation. Depending on the software release and product, the publications included in a standard package can vary. A standard set usually includes the following types of publications:
For a complete list of Cisco IOS documentation titles and order numbers, see the Cisco Product Catalog on the Web at http://www.cisco.com.
Hardware documentation includes documents describing installation, configuration, and maintenance procedures. Hardware documentation includes the following types of publications:
Hardware installation publications provide basic steps for installing and connecting PC cards and most chassis. Intended for the person responsible for installing the chassis, these publications assume a familiarity with electronic circuitry and wiring practices. These publications ship with the hardware.
Hardware installation and maintenance publications guide you through the initial site preparation and installing and troubleshooting the chassis. They describe some maintenance procedures. The guides assume familiarity with electronic circuitry and wiring practices. They do not automatically ship with the chassis: order hard copies or read the publications on the Documentation CD.
Installation and configuration guides provide basic steps for installing, connecting, and configuring your chassis. Intended for the person responsible for installing the chassis, these publications assume a familiarity with electronic circuitry and wiring practices. These publications ship with the hardware.
User guides provide basic steps for installing and configuring a device. They include initial software configuration information. These guides assume familiarity with electronic circuitry, and they ship with the hardware.
Configuration notes ship with all spares and upgrades. Configuration notes are available on the Documentation CD.
Updates contain corrections and new features to existing hardware documentation.
