Network Management Support CD Instructions

Network Management Support CD Instructions

This CD-ROM contains the latest Cisco network management device and application support files. These files are organized into product packages and provide up-to-date management support for the latest Cisco devices. For all platforms, follow the instructions to mount and then refer to the software installation instructions located on the CD-ROM in a README file. There will be README files for each platform/product. If you are using a PC, mounting is unnecessary, so skip directly to the PC README file for instructions.

For information on what Cisco device packages are included on this CD-ROM, refer to the README_FIRST file. For information on installing Cisco device packages for use with CiscoView, refer to the cvinstall_README file for your platform.

For the latest device support, refer to the Software Library area on Cisco Connection Online (CCO) at http://www.cisco.com/kobayashi/sw-center/.

CiscoWorks CD Installation for Solaris

The following instructions describe installing the CiscoWorks CD-ROM on Solaris from either local or remote machines.

Installing from a Local CD-ROM

To install the CD-ROM from a local CD-ROM drive, perform the following steps:

  1. Log in as the superuser by entering su and the root password.

  2. If a /cdrom directory does not already exist, enter:
# mkdir /cdrom

  1. Insert the CD-ROM in the drive.

The CD is automatically mounted onto the /cdrom directory. If you are running File Manager, a separate File Manager window displays the contents of the CD-ROM.

  2. If the /cdrom directory is empty because the CD was not mounted, or if File Manager did not open a window displaying the contents of the CD, check if the vold daemon is running by entering:
# ps -e | grep vold | grep -v grep

  1. If the system does not display anything, enter:
# /usr/sbin/vold &

The vold daemon manages the CD-ROM device and performs the mounting.

Installing from a Remote CD-ROM

To install the CD-ROM from a remote CD-ROM drive, perform the following steps on the remote machine:

Note This section assumes the remote machine is running Solaris. If you have a remote machine running HP-UX, refer to the section "Mounting from a Remote Drive" in the CiscoWorks Installation Guide for HP-UX, and use the option anon=0 on the export command for the CD-ROM on the remote HP-UX machine.

  1. Log in as the superuser by entering su and the root password.

  2. If a /cdrom directory does not already exist, enter:
# mkdir /cdrom

  1. Place the CD-ROM in the drive.

  2. Enter the following command:
share -F nfs -o ro /cdrom/cdrom0

  1. Check NFS server status by entering:
# ps -ef | grep nfs | grep -v grep

  1. If your machine is enabled as an NFS server, the daemons /usr/lib/nfs/nfsd and /usr/lib/nfs/mountd should be running. If these daemons are not running, enable your machine as an NFS server by entering:
# /etc/init.d/nfs.server start

The CD is automatically mounted onto the /cdrom directory. If you are running File Manager, a separate File Manager window displays the contents of the CD-ROM.

Note Do not use the exportfs command. The nfs.server start command is already sharing the CD-ROM drive.

  1. Go to the local machine and become the superuser by entering su and the root password.

  2. If a /cdrom directory does not already exist, enter:
# mkdir /cdrom

  1. To mount the CD-ROM, enter:
# /usr/sbin/mount -r remote_machinename:/cdrom/cdrom0 /cdrom

You do not have to create the directory for the CiscoWorks files. By default, CiscoWorks is installed in the following directories:

/opt/CSCOcws Solstice Site/SunNet/Domain Manager version
/opt/CSCOcwh HP OpenView version
/opt/CSCOsyb All Sybase modules

Installing or Upgrading on Solaris

The installation process on Solaris requires you to install the CiscoWorks packages, reboot the system, if necessary, and run the configuration scripts.

Note If you have CWSI 1.1 and Site/SunNet/Domain Manager on your system, refer to the section "Installing or Removing CWSI" in the "Installing and Configuring CiscoWorks" chapter of the CiscoWorks Installation Guide for Solaris.

To install CiscoWorks on a Solaris platform, perform the following steps:

  1. If you are installing CiscoWorks for the first time, extract the files from the CD-ROM by entering the following command:
#pkgadd -d /cdromdir all

Where cdromdir is one of the following CD-ROM directories:

/cdrom/cdrom0 if the CD-ROM is mounted on your local machine

/cdrom if the CD-ROM is mounted on a remote machine

  1. If you are upgrading from CiscoWorks 3.2, extract the files from the CD-ROM by entering the following command:
#pkgadd -a /cdromdir/cwadmin -d /cdromdir all

Where cdromdir is one of the following CD-ROM directories:

/cdrom/cdrom0 if the CD-ROM is mounted on your local machine

/cdrom if the CD-ROM is mounted on a remote machine

  1. Answer yes each time pkgadd prompts whether you want to install a package.

  2. If you are prompted to reboot your system, enter:
# reboot

This ensures that your system is configured for running Sybase.

  1. After your computer reboots, log into your system as superuser (root), as follows:
login: root
password:rootpassword

  1. If OpenView is running, exit the interface by selecting Map>Exit.

  2. If Site/SunNet/Domain Manager is running, exit the interface by selecting Close from the System Menu.

  3. If any tools have been started from the Solstice EM Viewer, exit by selecting File>Exit.

  4. If you are upgrading from a previous version of CiscoWorks, shut down the CiscoWorks processes by entering:
# source $NMSROOT/etc/install.cshrc
# shutdown_nms

  1. Change directories and run the cwconfigure script:
# cd $NMSROOT/install
# ./cwconfigure

  1. To unmount and eject the CD-ROM from your local machine, enter:
# cd /
# eject

  1. To unmount and eject the CD-ROM from a remote machine, do the following:
# cd /
# unmount /cdrom
# cd /
# eject

  1. Remove the CD-ROM from the drive and store it in a safe place.

For information on minimum and recommended requirements, installation verification procedures, and customizing procedures, refer to the CiscoWorks Installation Guide for Solaris.
