Release Note for Cisco IOS Release11.1 AA

February 16, 1998

This document describes the features and caveats for Cisco IOS Release 11.1 AA, up to and including Release 11.1(17)AA. Release 11.1(17)AA is a platform-specific software release that supports new features for the Cisco 1600 series routers, Cisco 3600 series routers, and Cisco AS5200 access servers.This document supplements the Cisco IOS Release 11.1 documentation set with new and changed commands that support the new features in Release 11.1(17)AA.

This document will be updated as additional releases of Release 11.1 AA are made available to support new hardware and software features.

Memory Requirements

The memory requirements for feature sets available in Release 11.1AA are the same as those listed in the "Memory Requirements" for each of the platforms supported, included in the hardware documentation for each platform.


Note The Cisco 1600 and Cisco 3600 routers were introduced in the 11.1(7)AA software release.

New Features

The following sections list the new features that are available in each release of Cisco IOS Release 11.1 AA. Features are described in detail in the documentation that accompanies the hardware.

New Features in Release 11.1(17)AA Through 11.1(15)AA

There are no new features for these releases.

New Features in Release 11.1(14)AA

This software release now supports the Cisco AS5200 access server microcom modem module, which can connect up to 33.6 Kbps.

New Features in Release 11.1(13)AA Through 11.1(9)AA

There are no new features for these releases.

New Features in Release 11.1(8)AA

Cisco 3600 routers, in this software release, now support the NM-1E1R2W network module.

New Features in Release 11.1(7) AA

The following new features have been added to Release 11.1(7)AA:

The Cisco 3640 is equipped with four network module slots. The Cisco 3620 has two slots. Each network module slot accepts a variety of network module interface cards, including LAN and WAN mixed media cards supporting Ethernet, Token Ring, and a variety of WAN technologies. These cards provide the foundation of LAN and WAN connectivity on a single network module. Additional applications are supported with a series of network module cards offering asynchronous and synchronous serial, ISDN PRI, and ISDN BRI interfaces.

New Features in Release 11.1(6)AA

The following new features have been added to Release 11.1(6)AA:

With this feature, you must configure E1 clocking using the clock source line primary command and the clock source line secondary command.

The new commands for the Cisco 1600 series, Cisco 3600 series, and the AS5200 access server are listed in this section.

Cisco 1600 Series Routers

The ROM monitor and Cisco IOS commands that are new or modified, or have special syntax or usage for Cisco 1600 series routers, are listed. All other commands used with these routers are documented in the Cisco IOS Release 11.2 command references.

Release 11.1 AA Caveats

Refer to the Release Notes for Cisco IOS Release 11.1 publication for a list of the caveats that apply to Release 11.1. The caveats that apply to Cisco IOS Release 11.1 apply to Release 11.1 AA.

Only serious caveats with release note attachments are described in these release notes. The complete caveats against Release 11.1 are available in the Cisco Documentation CD-ROM package. In the CD-ROM package, access the Cisco IOS 11.1 caveats in the Cisco IOS Release 11.1 database. If you have an account on Cisco Connection Online (CCO), you can view additional caveats using the bug search tools in the Bug Toolkit, such as the Bug Navigator.

Caveats for Release 11.1(17)AA

There are no caveats for this release.

Caveats for Release 11.1(16)AA

This section describes possible unexpected behavior by Release 11.1(16)AA. Unless otherwise noted, these caveats apply to all 11.1AA releases up to and including 11.1(16)AA. These caveats are listed in the 11.1 AA Release Note because they apply to specific platforms supported by Release 11.1 AA.

Caveats for Release 11.1(14)AA

This section describes possible unexpected behavior by Release 11.1(14)AA. Unless otherwise noted, these caveats apply to all 11.1 CA releases up to and including 11.1(14)AA. These caveats are listed in the 11.1AA Release Note because they apply to specific platforms supported by Release 11.1 AA.

No performance issue is seen and the only workaround is to disable MLP. [CSCdj03061]
Enter the show controller serial command, then look for the "residual indication count." If the counter is at "0," then this is not the problem. If it is nonzero value, this might have hit this bug. [CSCdj17394]

Caveats for Release 11.1(12)AA Through 11.1(8)AA

There are no caveats for these releases.

Caveats for Release 11.1(7)AA

This section describes possible unexpected behavior by Release 11.1(7)AA. Unless otherwise noted, these caveats apply to all 11.1 AA releases up to and including 11.1(7)AA. These caveats are listed in the 11.1 AA Release Note, because they apply to specific platforms supported by Release 11.1 AA.

Caveats for Release 11.1(6)AA

There are no caveats for this release.

Cisco Connection Online

Cisco Connection Online (CCO) is Cisco Systems' primary, real-time support channel. Maintenance customers and partners can self-register on CCO to obtain additional information and services.

Available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, CCO provides a wealth of standard and value-added services to Cisco's customers and business partners. CCO services include product information, product documentation, software updates, release notes, technical tips, the Bug Navigator, configuration notes, brochures, descriptions of service offerings, and download access to public and authorized files.

CCO serves a wide variety of users through two interfaces that are updated and enhanced simultaneously: a character-based version and a multimedia version that resides on the World Wide Web (WWW).
