This booklet explains how to install and access the contents of the Documentation CD-ROM. It contains the following sections:
The installation utility on the Documentation disc will install the following software on your hard drive:
- Netscape Navigator 3.01
- Adobe Acrobat Reader 3.0
- Verity CD Web Publisher 2.2
- QuickTime and QuickTime plug-in (for Windows only)
- TCP/IP stack (for Windows 3.1 only, if needed)
To take full advantage of the features of the CD-ROM, we recommend installing all of the listed items.
Note Prior to installing this software, the installer will look for any existing version of Netscape Navigator on your system. If one is not found, or if the version is older than the one provided, you will be prompted to install the software. The Adobe Acrobat Reader and Verity software will always be installed.
To install and start the CD, perform the following steps.
Note AppleScript is required for this installation. If you do not have AppleScript already installed on your system, refer to your Macintosh system software documentation and install the software before proceeding.
- With the Documentation disc inserted in the CD-ROM drive, double-click on the CD icon labeled CISCOCD.
- Open the INSTALL folder, then double-click on the MAC folder. In the MAC folder, double-click on the INSTALL icon.
- The applications install sequentially on your hard drive. Read and respond to the installation screens as they appear. Click Quit after the completion of each installation. A folder named Cisco is added to your hard drive.
- To access the CD contents, open the Cisco folder on your hard drive and double-click on the LaunchCD icon. The Netscape Navigator browser displays the documentation home page.
To install and start the CD, perform the following steps:
- With the Documentation disc inserted in the CD-ROM drive, double-click on the My Computer icon.
- Double-click on the Ciscocd icon, then double-click on the Install directory.
- In the Install directory, double-click on the Windows directory, then double-click on the Setup.exe utility. When the Welcome screen appears, click on the Next button.
- When the Select Software for Installation window appears, follow the installation instructions on your screen.
- When the installation is complete, click on the Finish button. The documentation home page is then displayed.
- To access the CD contents in the future, click on the Start button, select Programs, choosing "Cisco CD-ROM Products," and then select LaunchCD.
To install and start the CD, perform the following steps:
- With the Documentation disc inserted in the CD-ROM drive, double-click on the File Manager icon.
- In File Manager, click on the CD-ROM drive icon, then double-click on the Install directory.
- In the Install directory, double-click on the Windows directory, then double-click on the Setup.exe utility. When the Welcome screen appears, click on the Next button.
- When the Select Software for Installation window appears, follow the installation instructions on your screen.
- When the installation is complete, click on the Finish button. The documentation home page is then displayed.
- To access the CD contents in the future, double-click on the Cisco directory in Program Manager, then double-click on LaunchCD.
To install and start the CD, perform the following steps:
Note You do not need root level privileges to perform this installation.
- Insert the Documentation disc in the CD-ROM drive.
- Mount the CD-ROM drive1 as follows, entering your CD-ROM device name in place of
device_name
:
For RS/6000: mount -o ro -v cdrfs
device_name
/cdrom
For HP 9000: mount -t cdfs
device_name
/cdrom
For SunOS: mount -r -t hsfs
device_name
/cdrom
For Solaris: The CD is automatically mounted onto the /cdrom directory. If the CD does not mount automatically, see the "Solaris Troubleshooting" section later in this booklet.
- After the CD-ROM is mounted, change the directory as follows:
cd /cdrom/ciscocd/install/unix
For Solaris: cd /cdrom/cdrom0/install/unix
- To run the installation script, enter the following command:
./install
- Enter appropriate responses to the prompts that appear as the installation script runs.
- Designate the location and the directory name where the software is installed on your hard drive, entering your installation path in place of
install_path
,
and assigning the directory names for each application
as follows:
For Netscape: cd /
install_path
/netscape
For Acrobat: cd /
install_path
/acrobat
For Verity: cd /
install_path
/CiscoCD
Note You will be prompted twice for the Acrobat installation path. Use the same exact path on both occasions.
- When the installation is finished, the Netscape Navigator browser and the Verity search software will be launched, and the CD-ROM home page will appear in the browser window.
- To access the CD contents in the future, enter the following command, where
install_path
is the path to the CiscoCD directory on your hard drive:
cd /
install_path
/CiscoCD
Then enter the command ./launchcd

If the CD does not mount automatically, the vold daemon might not be running. This daemon manages the CD device and automatically mounts the CD. Verify that the vold daemon is running by entering the following command:
ps -e | grep vold | grep -v grep
If the system does not display anything, vold is not running. Enter the following command to launch the vold daemon:
/usr/sbin/vold &
After the CD is mounted, return to Step 3 of the UNIX instructions to complete the installation.
