The Cisco 1020 supports two types of modems, a PCMCIA Type-2 modem in the Async 2 slot, and an external modem connected to the Async 1 console port. The PCMCIA modems are listed alphabetically by manufacturer.
The PCMCIA modems in Table E-1 have been verified for use with the Cisco 1020.

Many V.Fast modems only seem to talk reliably when both modems are from the same vendor, and are not recommended. We recommend using V.32bis or V.34 modems with the Cisco 1020.
