Cisco 700 series routers connect small office Ethernet LANs to corporate networks through Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) Basic Rate Interface (BRI) lines. After configuration, the router automatically routes packets to and from remote destinations using Internet Protocol (IP) or Internetwork Packet Exchange (IPX). The remote dial-up network routing connections are made on-demand.
The Cisco 700 series router is a fixed configuration router. The router operating system is called Cisco 700 software and is unique to the Cisco 700 series router.
The Cisco 700 series routers support the following protocols:
You can configure routers through the configuration port or across an IP network using Telnet. In addition, Cisco 700 software supports Cisco Fast Step and ClickStart GUI configuration interfaces. These tools are on the CD-ROM in the Cisco 700 Quick Reference Guide.
Commands and parameters have different results, depending on where they are entered. There are two primary levels, system and profile. The system mode commands are global in nature. The profile mode commands are groups of command parameters that relate to a specific switch or port. For additional information regarding profiles, refer to Appendix B, "Using Profiles with Cisco 700 Series Routers."
