Release Notes for Cisco 700 Software Release 4.1.2 X.25

Release Notes for Cisco 700 Software Release 4.1.2 X.25

X.25 enables retail store devices to access the X.25 networks of bank credit card verification systems. This release note describes the features and caveats for Cisco 700 series router software Release 4.1(2) X.25, which supports X.25 over the ISDN B channel.

This document includes the following sections:

System Support

Cisco 700 series router software Release 4.1(2) X.25 supports the following routers:

Cisco 760 Series Cisco 770 Series CPA760 Series
Cisco 761 Cisco 771 CPA761
Cisco 762 Cisco 772 CPA762
Cisco 765 Cisco 775 CPA765
Cisco 766 Cisco 776 CPA766

Image Names and Memory Requirements

The filenames for the X.25 image are C760-in.rx-NET3.41-2.bin (Remote Office) and C760-in.rx-NET3.41-2.bin (Internal Ready). The DOS filename for the X.25 image is 80206501. The image requires 1.5 MB of DRAM.

X.25 Over B Channel

For this release, only Cardway TPAD services (British Telecom) are supported. (The connection is made through the Cisco 700 series router serial port.) These commands are limited to the X.25 release of the software and is not documented in the standard product documentation.

set x25

Use the set x25 command to set the virtual circuit ranges. This command is only available for X.25 support with NET3 software.

SEt X25 [LIc | HIc | LTc | HTc | LOc | HOc] vc_number
Syntax Description

LIc

Lowest in-coming virtual circuit number.

HIc Highest in-coming virtual circuit number.
LTc Lowest two-way virtual circuit number.
HTc Highest two-way virtual circuit number.
LOc Lowest out-going virtual circuit number.
HOc Highest out-going virtual circuit number.
vc_number Virtual circuit number. Valid value ranges are from 0 to 4095
Default

The default values for LIc, HIc, LTc and HTc are 0. The default value for LOc and HOc is 1024.

Usage Guidelines

When upgrading the router software, it is recommended that you issue the set default command, so the X.25 default values are set properly. When changing the virtual circuit ranges, the value(s) are not be effective until the router is rebooted.

The router verifies that the highest virtual circuit number is larger than the lowest virtual circuit number. Therefore it is mandatory that the highest virtual circuit number to be set first (as shown in the example below).

Example
Host> set X25 hoc 1024
Host> set X25 loc 1024
Related Command

SHow X25

show X25

To display the X25 parameters, use the show X25 command.

SHow X25
Default

None

Command Mode

System or profile level

Usage Guidelines

This command is only supported with the X.25 for NET3 software. The output shows whether or not X.25 was initialized properly, the MODE of operation, and the virtual circuit ranges.

Example
Host> show x25
X25 is running in DTE MODE. VC Ranges - current value (new value after reboot): lic 0 (0), hic 0 (0), ltc 0 (0), htc 0 (0), loc 1024 (1024), hoc 1024 (1024)

set serial port

The set serial_port command toggles the serial port function as a configuration port or a TPAD port:

set Serial_Port TPAD | Config

For example, the following command sets the serial port to be a TPAD port.

Host> set serial_port tpad

When the port is set to TPAD, communications from a configuration terminal to the serial port are no longer possible. Configuration commands can be entered by using Telnet.

To switch from TPAD mode to CONFIG mode, you can do one of the following:

None

Usage Guidelines

X.25 for the Cisco 700 series router is not configurable. This implementation of the X.25 is strictly to support TPAD. The X.25 fixed parameters required by the TPAD protocol are as follows:

LAPB (Link Access Procedure, Balanced)

X.25

NUI (Network User Information) and NUA (Network User Address) are supported as described in British Telecom CardWay 0800 Phase 3 Access Platform specification.

X.28 and other X.25 PADs (Packet Assembly Disassembly) are not supported. There is no protocol sensing provision.

The call direction is dial-out only. Incoming calls and two-way calls are not supported.

TPAD Parity Configuration

The set tpad parity command was added to allow serial port communications for TPAD to be changed. (In software Release 4.1(1) serial port communication was limited to 8 data bits, 1 stop bit, and no parity.) The command allows you to change the data bits and parity. This command is limited to the X.25 release of the software and is not documented in the product documentation.

Command Syntax

To select the communications parameters for TPAD, use the set tpad parity command.

SEt TPad PArity EVen | ODd | None
Syntax Description

EVen

7 data bits, 1 stop bit, even parity

Odd 7 data bits, 1 stop bit, odd parity
None 8 data bits, 1 stop bit

Default

None

Command Mode

System mode

show tpad

To display the TPAD parity, use the show tpad command.

SHow X25
Default

None

Command Mode

System or profile level

Usage Guidelines

The output shows the parity of TPAD.

Example
Host> show tpad
TPAD Serial Port Parity: NONE

Cisco Connection Online

Cisco Connection Online (CCO), formerly Cisco Information Online (CIO), is Cisco Systems' primary, real-time support channel. Maintenance customers and partners can self-register on CCO to obtain additional content and services.

Available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, CCO provides a wealth of standard and value-added services to Cisco's customers and business partners. CCO services include product information, software updates, release notes, technical tips, the Bug Navigator, configuration notes, brochures, descriptions of service offerings, and download access to public and authorized files.

CCO serves a wide variety of users through two interfaces that are updated and enhanced simultaneously--a character-based version and a multimedia version that resides on the World Wide Web (WWW). The character-based CCO supports Zmodem, Kermit, Xmodem, FTP, Internet e-mail, and fax download options, and is excellent for quick access to information over lower bandwidths. The WWW version of CCO provides richly formatted documents with photographs, figures, graphics, and video, as well as hyperlinks to related information.
