Stop and Read Me!

The minimum level of software for a Supervisor Engine II that is to be installed in a Catalyst 5505 is supervisor engine software release 2.2(3) or later. If a Supervisor Engine II is inserted into a Catalyst 5505 chassis with software release 2.2(1) or 2.2(2), the supervisor engine will do an initial boot, come up, and then reboot again. This reboot cycle is then repeated - the supervisor engine never becomes active.

If you inadvertently insert a Supervisor Engine II with software release 2.2(1) or 2.2(2) into the Catalyst 5505 you must remove it during the Power Up Diagnostics (see following display).

Remove the supervisor engine module only during Power Up Diagnostics. Power Up Diagnostics start when the ROM Power Up Diagnostics of Aug 19 1997 banner displays. Power Up Diagnostics end when the BOOT date: 10/31/97 BOOT time: 19:07:11 text displays. Do not remove the module after the BOOT date: 10/31/97 BOOT time: 19:07:11 text displays.

If you remove the supervisor engine after Power Up Diagnostics have completed, it might have to be shipped back to Cisco to reload an Eraseable Programmable Logic Device (EPLD).
