CiscoWorks on NetView for AIX
CD-ROM Installation Instructions

Before mounting from a CD-ROM drive, place the CiscoWorksTM CD-ROM into its caddy and insert it into the CD-ROM drive. The following instructions describe mounting it from either a local or a remote machine using System Management Interface Tool (SMIT), an IBM system management tool.

For more information about the installation procedure, refer to the specific instructions described in the CiscoWorks Administration and Installation Guide on NetView for AIX. Perform all tasks as superuser.

Mounting from a Local CD-ROM

To mount the CD-ROM from a local CD-ROM drive, perform the following steps:

  1. Log in as a superuser.

  2. Start SMIT by entering the following command:
# smit

  1. From the System Management list, select Physical & Logical Storage.

  2. Select File Systems.

  3. Select Add/Change/Show/Delete File Systems.

  4. Select CDROM File Systems.

  5. Select Add a CDROM File System.

  6. Click on the device name List button.

  7. Select the device name from the list that appears.

Note Device names for CD-ROM filesystems must be unique. You might need to delete a previously defined CD-ROM filesystem if there is a conflict.

  1. Enter the mount point (for example, /cdrom) in the mount point field.

  2. Click on Do.

  3. Select Exit>Exit SMIT.

  4. Mount the CD-ROM filesystem by entering the following command:
# smit mountfs

  1. Select the filesystem name.

  2. Enter the mount point (for example, /cdrom) as the directory name.

  3. Select cdrfs as the file system type. (Use the List button to display choices.)

  4. Set the Mount as Read-Only System field to yes.

  5. Click on Do.

The Mount a File System window appears.

  6. Click on Done after the mounting process is complete.

  7. Select Exit>Exit SMIT.

Proceed to the appropriate section in the CiscoWorks Administration and Installation Guide on NetView for AIX to perform your installation.

Mounting from a Remote CD-ROM

To mount the CD-ROM from a remote CD-ROM drive, perform the following steps on the remote machine:

  1. Perform all steps in the previous section, "Mounting from a Local CD-ROM."

  2. Enter smit mknfsexp at the command prompt.

  3. Enter the path name of the directory you want to export.

  4. Use the arrow keys to change the Mode to Export the Directory field to read-only.

  5. Enter the appropriate information for any of the other fields.

  6. Click on Do.

  7. Select Exit>Exit SMIT.

Perform the following steps on the local system:

  1. Log in as a superuser.

  2. Enter the following at the command prompt:

# mount remote_hostname:remote_exported_filesystem_name   local_mount_point

Note The previous command must be entered on one line; it does not appear this way in this document due to typographic limitations.

For example, to mount a remote filesystem named zen, enter the following at the prompt:

# mount zen:/cdrom /cdrom

Proceed to the appropriate section in the CiscoWorks Administration and Installation Guide on NetView for AIX to perform your installation.
