This booklet describes how to install CiscoWorks' software from the distribution CD-ROM into the AIX file system. Refer to CiscoWorks on AIX Installation and Reference Guide:
For additional help during installation, use the online help offered by SMIT. For help with NetView and the CiscoWorks utilities, refer to the online help.
These instructions describe installation by mounting the CD-ROM on the file system from the local or a remote host.
Perform all tasks as the root user.
To mount the CD-ROM on the file system from a local CD-ROM drive, perform the following steps:
# smit
hostname# smit mountfs
To install software from a device on a remote system, you must have remote access rights to that system.
Perform the following steps on the remote system as the root user:
# smit
hostname# smit mountfs
Perform this step on the local system as the root user:
hostname#mountremote_hostname:remote_exported_filesystem_name local_mount_point
For example, to mount a remote filesystem named zen, enter the following at the prompt:
hostname# mount zen:/cdrom /cdrom
Proceed to "Installing CiscoWorks on NetView for AIX."
To install the CiscoWorks files on an AIX platform, perform the following steps as the root user:
hostname# smit
While the animated man is running, SMIT installs the selected modules in the /usr/nms directory, and CiscoWorks modifies SMIT to allow subsequent configuration and de-installation of CiscoWorks.
If the man raises his hands and SMIT displays OK, the process has succeeded
If the man falls on his face, installation has failed. If the reason is not apparent, read the installation log file $HOME/smit.log or /usr/nms/install/cw_install.log and supply it to a TAC representative.
In the event of failure, terminate SMIT by pressing F12 or by clicking Exit SMIT on the Exit menu.
