Network Management Support CD Instructions

Network Management Support CD Instructions

This CD-ROM contains the latest Cisco network management device and application support files. These files are organized into product packages and provide up-to-date management support for the latest Cisco devices. For all platforms, follow the instructions to mount and then refer to the software installation instructions located on the CD-ROM in a README file. There will be README files for each platform/product. If you are using a PC, mounting is unnecessary, so skip directly to the PC README file for instructions.

For information on what Cisco device packages are included on this CD-ROM, refer to the README_FIRST file. For information on installing Cisco device packages for use with CiscoView, refer to the cvinstall_README file for your platform.

For the latest device support, refer to the Software Library area on Cisco Connection Online (CCO) at http://www.cisco.com/kobayashi/sw-center/.

Installing or Upgrading on AIX

Before installing CiscoWorks 4.0, you do not need to de-install CiscoWorks 3.0.3.

**before**CiscoWorks can be installed only in the /usr/nmsdirectory. If you create a filesystem, its mount point must be /usr/nms. If /user/nms already exists on your system, you must back up all the data in that directory before installing CiscoWorks. Installation of CiscoWorks overwrites any existing data.@@before@@Caution **after**CiscoWorks can be installed only in the /usr/nmsdirectory. To install the CiscoWorks files on an AIX platform, perform the following steps:

  1. Insert the CD-ROM into the local or remote drive.

  2. Log in as the superuser.

  3. If NetView is running, exit by selecting File>Exit.

  4. Shut down the Netview daemons by entering the following command:
# ovstop

  1. Start SMIT by entering the following at the command prompt:
hostname# smit

  1. On the System Management panel, click Software Installation & Maintenance.

  2. Click Install and Update Software.

  3. On the next menu:

For AIX 4.1.5, go to Step 10.

For AIX 4.2, select Install and Update from Latest Available Software.

  4. In the Install an Update from Latest Available Software dialog box, enter the source of the CiscoWorks 4.0 software, then go to Step 14.

  5. Click Install/Update Selectable Software (Custom Install).

  10. Select the appropriate CD-ROM.

  11. Click OK.

  15. In response to the ARE YOU SURE? prompt, click OK when you are sure you want to install the modules you just highlighted.

While the animated man is running, SMIT installs the selected modules in the /usr/nms directory, and CiscoWorks modifies SMIT to allow subsequent configuration and de-installation of CiscoWorks.

If the man raises his hands and SMIT displays OK, the process has succeeded.

If the man falls on his face, installation has failed. If the reason is not apparent, read the installation log file $HOME/smit.log and supply it to a Cisco TAC representative.

  16. Click Done.

  17. If step 20 indicated success, click System Management in the Main SMIT menu and go to the section "Configuring CiscoWorks" in the "Installing and Configuring CiscoWorks" chapter of the CiscoWorks Installation Guide for AIX, Release 4.0.

In the event of failure, terminate SMIT by pressing F12 or by clicking Exit SMIT on the Exit menu.
