This section provides information about who should use this manual, how the manual is organized, related documents, and conventions used.

Audience

This guide is written for network administrators, operators, and managers who install and maintain Cisco routers and who use various network management applications on remote hosts to monitor Cisco routers.

Document Organization

This manual provides task-based information for installing and using the NetFlow FlowCollector application. The application is available on CD-ROM.

This manual is organized as follows:

• Chapter 1: NetFlow FlowCollector Overview--Contains an overview of the NetFlow Switching and the NetFlow FlowCollector application.

• Chapter 2: Installing and Setting Up the NetFlow FlowCollector--Provides instructions for downloading the NetFlow FlowCollector application and installing the application on a Solaris or HP platform, and for setting up basic files needed for the application.

• Chapter 3: Configuring the NetFlow FlowCollector--Provides instructions for configuring and customizing the NetFlow FlowCollector application.

• Chapter 4: Using the NetFlow FlowCollector--Provides instructions for starting the NetFlow FlowCollector application so that you can use it to interpret and maintain the data collected.

Document Conventions

The conventions listed here are used in this document.

Bold screen literal type	Represents user input.	$ date

Boldface type	Denotes names of commands, command arguments, and switches. Command names are case sensitive; enter them exactly as they appear in the text or examples.	Issue the clear command.
Italic type	Used for titles of documents.	NetFlow FlowCollector Installation and User Guide
Angle brackets <>	Indicate user-specified parameters or classes of user responses. When you see this notation in command syntax, make the substitution enclosed within the brackets, but do not type the angle brackets.	If you see <parameter_keyword> <new_value> you might type MaxMB 288
Square brackets [ ]	Indicate optional arguments or parameters for commands. You can omit optional arguments and parameters in any command.	> help [<topic>]
Caret symbol ^	When the caret symbol precedes a character, it refers to the control key.	^X (the same as Control X)
Curly braces{ }	Indicate a choice of argument or parameters for commands. Arguments or parameters are separated by a vertical line{|}, and you must select one.	cli> set cli traplevel {off|info|oper|trace|debug}
