Cisco LightStream 100 Release Note for Software Release 3.1

This release note describes the new features and modifications for Cisco LightStream 100 Software Release 3.1.


Documentation

The Cisco LightStream 100 User Guide is available for the LightStream 100 Switch. This document is available in printed form and in electronic form on Cisco Cisco Connection Documentation CD-ROM under Cisco Product Documentation, ATM Adapters and Switches, Cisco LightStream 100, Cisco LightStream 100 Release Notes.

Software Release 3.1

Software Release 3.1 suppports the following additional features:


Software Release 3.1 Caveats

Workaround:

Static routes should not be configured to an address prefix that matches any 13-byte ILMI network prefixes used on the same switch. In particular, default static routes should not be configured.

Workaround:

Avoid using the same NSAP address for different stations.

Note The LightStream 100 product was formerly known as the HyperSwitch A100.


Upgrading the Software

This section provides the procedure to upgrade software stored in Flash read-only memory (ROM). This procedure uses TFTP to download new software installed on a server workstation.


Required Equipment for Upgrading Software

Have the following equipment available when upgrading the software:


Upgrade Considerations

Before performing the upgrade, consider the following important information:


Performing the Software Upgrade

To perform the upgrade, follow these steps:

Step 1 Set the power switch on back of the LightStream 100 main unit to the ON (|) position.

Step 2 Enter the enable command at the user prompt, as follows:
LS100> enable         

Step 3 Enter your password when prompted, as follows
Input password: ********        
LS100#

Step 4 Enter the server IP address, default route, and boot filename:

Case 1: The server and the switch have the same IP network address.

The boot filename is /tftpboot/etc/rboot.dat.

Enter the set server command and your server's address, as follows:
LS100# set server         your_server_address 

Case 2: The server and the switch have different IP network addresses.

The boot filename is /tftpboot/etc/rboot.dat.

Enter the set server command, your server address, and default router IP address, as follows:
LS100# set server your_server_address default_router_ip_address         

Step 5 Enter the switch IP address, as follows:
LS100# set local         switch_name switch_ip_address switch_ip_mask

Step 6 Change the boot mode to one of the following two options:

Case 1: Clear the configuration data, as follows:
LS100# set boot initialize         

Case 2: Keep the configuration data, as follows:
LS100# set boot network         

Step 7 Save the configuration with the save command, as follows:
LS100# save

Caution To avoid losing the configuration data you entered, after entering the save command and before pushing the Reset button, wait for the displayed output "system data has been saved." The save process can take over five minutes.

Step 8 Connect the Ethernet cable to a server workstation and the LightStream 100 switch.

Step 9 Wait until the system prompt at the console terminal is displayed; then push the Reset button on the LightStream 100 front panel. The switch will load the software from the TFTP server (this can take five minutes). Verify that the yellow Status LED lights, which indicates the loading procedure is complete.

Step 10 Press the Reset button again.

Step 11 Verify the software and ROM versions using the show version command, as follows:
LS100# show version        
Cisco Systems, Inc. LightStream 100
LS100 Software Version x.x(x)
Boot ROM Version xxx 22 Mar 95
ATMSIG Version x.x(x) 20 Mar 95


Cisco Connection Online

Cisco Connection Online (CCO) is Cisco Systems' primary, real-time support channel. Maintenance customers and partners can self-register on CCO to obtain additional content and services.

Available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, CCO provides a wealth of standard and value-added services to Cisco's customers and business partners. CCO services include product information, software updates, release notes, technical tips, the Bug Navigator, configuration notes, brochures, descriptions of service offerings, and download access to public and authorized files.

CCO serves a wide variety of users through two interfaces that are updated and enhanced simultaneously---a character-based version and a multimedia version that resides on the World Wide Web (WWW). The character-based CCO (called "CCO Classic") supports Zmodem, Kermit, Xmodem, FTP, Internet e-mail, and fax download options, and is excellent for quick access to information over lower bandwidths. The WWW version of CCO provides richly formatted documents with photographs, figures, graphics, and video, as well as hyperlinks to related information.
