This manual has been written for the network manager interested in managing a Catalyst 2820 or 1900 using a standard SNMP-based network-management application. The manual describes the standard MIB objects and MIB object extensions supported by Catalyst 2820 and 1900 switches and how to configure your switch for in-band management. It is assumed that readers of this manual are well-versed in the concepts and terminology of SNMP.
Cisco documentation and additional literature are available on a CD called Cisco Connection Documentation, Enterprise Series. The CD is updated and shipped monthly so it might be more current than printed documentation. To order the Cisco Connection Documentation, Enterprise Series CD, contact your local sales representative or call Customer Service. The CD is available both as a single CD and as an annual subscription. You can also access Cisco technical documentation on the World Wide Web URL http://www.cisco.com.
The manual is organized as follows:
"Introduction" describes supported TCP/IP protocols and how to configure a Catalyst 2820 or 1900 switch for SNMP. It also lists the supported MIB objects, their functions, and the traps generated by the Catalyst 2820 or 1900 switch.
"Catalyst 2820 and 1900 MIB Extensions" describes how to configure Catalyst 2820 or 1900 MIB extension groups.
"Catalyst 2820 Module MIB Objects" describes how to configure the module MIB group used to manage the modules in the Catalyst 2820 expansion slots.
"Bridge MIB Objects (RFC 1493)" describes the bridge MIB objects and includes those parameters used by the 802.1d Spanning-Tree Protocol.
"FDDI MIB Objects (SMT73)" describes how to use in-band management to configure and manage the Catalyst 2820 FDDI modules.
"EIA/TIA-232 MIB Objects (RFC 1317)" describes how to configure the EIA/TIA-232 port using the supported MIB objects.
