This manual has been written for the network manager interested in managing a Catalyst 2100 or Catalyst 2800 using a standard SNMP-based network-management application. The manual describes the standard MIB objects and MIB object extensions supported by Catalyst 2000 switches and how to configure your Catalyst 2000 switch for in-band management. It is assumed that readers of this manual are well-versed in the concepts and terminology of SNMP.
The manual is organized as follows:
"Introduction" describes supported TCP/IP protocols and how to configure a Catalyst 2000 switch for SNMP. It also lists the supported MIB objects, their functions, and the traps generated by the Catalyst 2000 switch.
"Catalyst 2000 MIB Extensions" describes how to configure Catalyst 2000 MIB extension groups.
"Catalyst 2800 Module MIB Objects" describes how to configure the module MIB group used to manage the modules in the Catalyst 2800 expansion slots.
"RFC-1493: Bridge MIB Objects" describes the bridge MIB objects and includes those parameters used by the 802.1d Spanning-Tree Protocol.
"FDDI-SMT73 MIB Objects" describes how to use in-band management to configure and manage the Catalyst 2800 FDDI modules.
"RFC-1317: RS-232 MIB Objects" describes how to configure the RS-232 port using the supported MIB objects.
"MIB Installation" describes how to configure Catalyst 2000 MIB extensions for NMS, SunNet Manager and HP OpenView environments.
