A unique and powerful aspect of Neverwinter Nights is the ability for the customer community to create custom content. In other words we customers can create our own adventure modules to run under their computerized Dungeons & Dragons system.

With the game Bioware provided the same toolset they used to create the built-in campaign. The amount of user-created content is huge and is available from
Neverwinter Vault.

Custom Content

I've created some custom content for Neverwinter Nights and submitted it to Neverwinter Vault:

     •
Island Holiday - an adventure module.
     •
Death Area - a prefabricated area others can use in their module to handle dying.
     •
The Rock and a Hard Quest - part of an adventure module in development.
Island Holiday

Inspired by the combination of a trip to the Caribbean with friends and the movie Poltergeist, this was my first publicly released Neverwinter Nights module.
Death Area

While implementing Island Holiday I decided I needed to handle dying in the game in a better way than the default for custom modules. I wanted something similar to the handling in the Official Campaign and ended up with my own area where you go when you die, with penalties as in the Official Campaign.
The Rock and a Hard Quest

Much to my wife's amusement I set out to create a shopping area for Neverwinter Nights. After adventuring my friends and I often had loot to sell and gold to spend but no good merchants available. So I intended to make us a set of shops where we could buy and sell any standard game item and where we could put custom items, all of this at prices that would maintain the legitimacy of our characters.
You can get Island Holiday from Neverwinter Vault, where you can also find a review.

Inspired by a contest at Neverwinter Vault, I improved my Death Area and submitted it as a prefab, a package that others can install in their own custom modules. I didn't come in dead last in the contest....

Quite a way into this project I decided to work on another, grander, story-driven module for Neverwinter Nights. Lake City became the beginning and hub of that module.

What is here is essentially a beta test of the upcoming module and a fully functional shopping area. Many of the places in this module aren't populated, quests aren't installed, and conversations are rudimentary. In other words it's not done.

But it's perhaps interesting to explore and the shopping parts of it are fully functional.

You can't get Lake City from Neverwinter Vault yet, as it's still very much in development..
