The Prize
The Indy workstation we're giving away comes fully-loaded with:

Indy -- To Author and Serve

Author, Author!
You may recognize the Indy workstation by its distinctive digital color video camera (which comes with each and every system). But that's just the beginning of the built-in digital media capabilities that can bring life to your Web documents.

We don't call this the "world processor" for nothing. In addition to the digital IndyCam connection, Indy has ports for S-video and composite analog video. So regardless of where it starts, you can bring video into your Indy -- and perform edits with the bundled MovieMaker tool, or with advanced third-party applications.

And dishing up audio is just as easy. Indy's audio interface includes line-in and line-out jacks, microphone-in and headphone-out jacks, as well as a digital I/O jack for CD-quality audio. Bundled tools, like SoundEditor, allow you to record and edit CD-quality audio clips. And the SoundFiler tool lets you perform sample rate and file format conversions. Just check out what the guys at IUMA are doing with this technology.

Of course, the Indigo Magic user environment also includes tools for altering and enhancing color images. But to produce the killer GIF and JPEG images you'll want to share with the world, you'll use the power of first class graphics and imaging applications customized, optimized, and available for Indy. Easily bring your imagination to life in two or three dimensions. (Check out some of the coolest examples in Power for Print. Here's Allegory © Horowitz + Bowen, 1994 Allegory)

Built to Serve.
Some of the best news is that same Indy that allows you to author killer HTML is also ideally suited to Web serving. That means, you can actually get yourself or your business up-and-running on the Web with the same machine.

To serve Web content to the Net, you need a powerful UNIX system (and preferably one that is easy-to-use and affordable). You need a machine that combines a powerful RISC microprocessor, a robust system architecture (267 megabytes per second system bus throughput recommended), and fast I/O (like, built-in SCSI-2, ethernet, and ISDN). Obviously, then, what you need is an Indy from Silicon Graphics.

It should come as no surprise then, that Indy has become the system of choice for most Web pioneers, like Wired magazine. Their new, ground-breaking publication, HotWired, is created with and served by Indy workstations. HotWired gets over 300,000 hits a day from Net surfers around the globe. And their creative combination of graphics, hypertext, music, and video is served entirely by two Indys.

Of course, if you anticipate that your Web site will get really popular, it may become time to dedicate your Indy to authoring, and to put your multimedia Web content on a dedicated server. And that's when you'll appreciate the additional power of a Challenge S (or even bigger) server from Silicon Graphics.
