The Road to the 50CC Quest and the Bun Burner Gold

This page is a work in progress. I have delayed creation because there is a lot of information in my head regarding the why, where, how, and when, and of this trip and I have yet to determine exactly how to organize it. Look for updates to this page as I get my head 'round it.

Pictures
I managed to snap a few pictures during the trip. The are laid out in a storyboard.

Why?
Ah, the quintessential question. I'm not really sure this can be answered since it will be different for each of us. My perspectives are that it's a challenge to see if you measure up, it's an extreme sport that middle aged folks such as myself can participate in (and if you doubt that try a Bun Burner Gold). Being somewhat of a philisophical question and fancying myself as a bit of a creative writer I've started writing my story.

Where?
One quickly discovers that trying to tie a specific destination to a specific long distance ride can be very challenging. I had wanted to tackle the 1500 miles in 24 hours Bun Burner Gold but I really didn't want to just go ride a big circle (as with my second SS1000) I wanted to go somewhere but a 1500 mile leg allows you very few options. Since I live near the east coast and have adult children and grandchildren in San Diego the 50CC Quest met the criteria.

How?
I laid out my milestones for the Bun Burner Gold in order to ensure I was on track. Simple route planning and then put it into a spreadsheet showing the basic stats of time and miles. Feel free to take a look or use this document as you see fit. It is a Microsoft Excel Spreadsheet.

Knowing that long distance riding makes you a bit goofy and that IBA documentation is strict, I set up a checklist to verify all the log book entries to check off during a stop.

When?
So once all the plan was laid out I still needed to decide when.
