Core Solutions

Cisco 12000 Series Gigabit Switch Router

The Cisco 12000 series is the first in a new product class of gigabit switch routers. The Cisco 12000 GSR meets exponential growth in demand for Internet bandwidth and brings scalability and high-performance to IP-based networks. Designed to meet current and future Internet traffic requirements, the Cisco 12000 series provides scalable IP forwarding and services performance in a carrier-class platform, enabling high-speed IP backbones to scale to speeds of OC-3 (155 Mbps), OC-12 (622 Mbps) and OC-48 (2.4 Gbps). Cisco's 12000 series includes a 12-slot model, the Cisco 12012, with switching capacity from 15 Gbps to 60 Gbps, a 8-slot model, the Cisco 12008, with switching capacity from 10 Gbps to 40 Gbps, and the 4-slot model, the Cisco 12004, with switching capacity of 5 Gbps. Cisco's gigabit switch router platforms support a combination of IP over SONET/SDH and ATM interfaces, future interfaces will include Gigabit Ethernet and other high speed media. For more information about this new product see Chapter 7, "Core Solutions."

7200 Series:   uBR7246:Universal Broadband Router
Universal Broadband Subsytsem
Universal Broadband Router Subsystem

The uBR7246 Universal Broadband Router is two products in one chassis. The Universal Chassis contains the Broadband subsystem and the router subsystem.

The Cisco Universal Broadband Router uBR7246 combines the functionality of the industry leading Cisco 7200 router and a head-end cable modem in one integrated platform. The uBR7246provides cable operators with a cost-effective, scalable, and feature-rich interface between subscriber cable modems and the backbone data network.

The uBR Broadband cable subsystem consists of up to 4 modem cards which plug in to the Universal chassis. Each modem card is entirely independent from a radio frequency (RF) standpoint, while all modem cards in the chassis share the Router subsystem. This provides maximum cost-effectiveness and flexibility to the cable operator by amortizing the cost of the routing across all the modems in each chassis, while allowing each of four modem cards to serve a dedicated group of subscriber modems. This flexibility further enables the use of different types of subscriber devices if desired.

The Router subsystem of the uBR7246 is built on the Cisco 7200 platform. The Cisco 7200 provides high-performance, density, and availability with industry-leading serviceability and manageability features. Cable operators can now gain the advantages of high-performance network- layer switching and services, including security, quality of service, and traffic management. For more information about these new product, see Chapter 7, "Core Solutions."

Interface Processors for the Cisco 7000 Family

CT3IP-50

Cisco Systems's channelized digital signal level 3 (DS#) interface processor model 50 is an enhancement to the existing CT3IP-40 for Cisco 7500 and 7000/Route Switch Processor (RSP) series routers. Built on the new VIP2-50 platform, the CT3IP-50 extends the performance and IOS service support of the CT3IP-XX family to greater levels. The CT3IP-50 allows 28 T1 connections to be terminated on a router via a single DS3 connection. For more information about this new product, see Chapter 7, "Core Solutions."

Port Adapters and Service Adapters for the 7000 Family

12E/2FE

The 12E/2FE port adapter provides twelve 10-Mbps and two 10/100-Mbps switched Ethernet (10BASE-T) and Fast Ethernet (100BASE-TX) interfaces for an aggregate bandwidth of 435 Mbps, full-duplex. The 12E/2FE port adapter is available for the Cisco 7200 series routers. For more information about this new product, see Chapter 7, "Core Solutions."

High Speed PA-E, PA-2E3

The PA-E3 and PA-2E3 one- and two-port E3 port adapters provide direct connectivity to E3 lines for full duplex communications at the E3 rate of 34.368 MHz. With integrated line interface units (DSUs) that allow E3 lines to be directly terminated on a Cisco router, these interface adapters simplify line management, reduce provisioning cost, and free up valuable rack space for Internet service providers and enterprise WAN connections. For more information about this new product, see Chapter 7, "Core Solutions."

High Speed PA-T3, PA-2T3

The PA-T3 and PA-2T3 one- and two-port T3 port adapters provide direct connectivity to T3 lines for full duplex communications at the DS3 rate of 44.736 MHz. With integrated line interface units (DSUs) that allow DS3 lines to be directly terminated on a Cisco router, these interface adapters simplify line management, reduce provisioning cost, and free up valuable rack space for Internet service providers and enterprise WAN connections. For more information about this new product, see Chapter 7, "Core Solutions."

PA-CE3

The PA-CE3 is a next generation solution that builds on Cisco's experience with channelized DS3 and supports high density clear channel and channelized E1 connections terminated via a single E3 G.703 connection. With the flexibility to provision E1, fractional E1, and Nx64K connections the PA-CE3 reduces the management complexity of supporting large numbers of leased line connections. For more information about this new product, see Chapter 7, "Core Solutions."

PA-CT3/4T1 Channelized DS3 Port Adapter for the Cisco 7200
