Memory Guidelines

The following tables provide DRAM guidelines for the Cisco 7200 series and 7500 series routers. In many cases, the recommended DRAM is greater than the default configuration.

DRAM Size Requirements -- Cisco 7200, RSP2, RSP4

Network Size Cisco 7200 Series Cisco 7505 Cisco 7507 Cisco 7513
Small1 32 MB 32 MB 32 MB 32 MB
Medium2 32 MB 32 MB 32 MB 32 MB
Large3 64 MB 64 MB 64 MB 64 MB
  1. 1 Small networks efficiently support <2000 IP routers.
  2. 2 Medium networks efficiently support 2000 to 10,000 IP routers.
  3. 3 Large networks efficiently support >10,000 routers.

Minimum DRAM -- Cisco 7200 Series, RSP2, RSP4 with Cisco IOS Software Release 11.1 and 11.2

The following table provides minimum DRAM requirements for Cisco IOS Software release 11.1. Actual DRAM requirements are a function of software release level, port adapter type, and port address densities.

For Cisco IOS Software release 11.2, the minimum DRAM requirement is 32 MB in all configurations.
