Documentation

Documentation for the Cisco products is available in two forms: on a CD-ROM called Cisco Connection Documentation, Enterprise Series and printed books. Additional CDs and a subscription CD update service are also available. For documentation prices, see the section "Ordering Documentation" in the Information Packet that ships with each product.

You can also access Cisco technical documentation on the World Wide Web URL http://www.cisco.com.

This chapter contains the following sections:

Cisco Connection Documentation, Enterprise Series CD

Cisco offers a complete set of Cisco customer documentation and selected marketing material on a CD-ROM called Cisco Connection Documentation, Enterprise Series. The CD also includes updated bug information, which enables you to avoid problems or diagnose them more quickly.

Note Cisco offers two Cisco Connection Documentation CDs: one for the enterprise products offered in this catalog and one for CiscoPro. Be sure to order Cisco Connection Documentation, Enterprise Series.

With the Cisco Connection Documentation, Enterprise Series CD, you can view, search, and print documentation on the following platforms with a CD-ROM drive: 68020, 68030, 68040, or PowerPC-based Macintosh systems, 80386SX or greater PCs, Sun SPARC systems, IBM RS/6000 workstations, and HP 9000 Model 700 or 800 systems. The viewing application conforms to user interface standards for Microsoft Windows and the Macintosh, Motif or OPEN LOOK on Sun SPARC systems and IBM RS/6000 workstations, and OpenView on HP 9000 Model 700 or 800 systems. The viewing application and the product documentation are on the same CD. The documentation CD can be mounted on a file server and published across a network.

You can also access the documentation CD material via Cisco Connection Online (CCO) on the World Wide Web URL http://www.cisco.com.

Navigating the Documentation CD

The Cisco Connection Documentation, Enterprise Series CD is a series of interconnected documents that you navigate by clicking on hypertext links and using navigation tools---the toolbar, the navigation bar, and the document button bar. In addition, the CD offers a powerful search facility to allow you to jump directly to the information that interests you.

The documentation CD also provides several ways to return to documents that you have previously looked at. A history facility allows you to keep track of the documents that you have looked at in the last 60 days and look at them again. You can also save the location of documents that you reference regularly through hypertext links in a hotlist.

The Viewing Environment

Information is stored on the Cisco Connection Documentation, Enterprise Series CD in Hypertext Markup Language (HTML). The viewing application, Verity Mosaic, is provided on the CD. You can use Verity Mosaic for a variety of tasks, as follows:

Subscription Service

When you place a product order you can request one copy of the Cisco Connection Documentation, Enterprise Series CD at no charge. To keep the library current, Cisco offers an annual subscription service. Subscribers receive 12 updated copies of the CD per year. Table 366 lists the order numbers for Cisco Connection Documentation, Enterprise Series CD.

Ordering Documentation

Cisco Systems provides two delivery programs: standard and express. The standard program delivers Cisco documentation on a worldwide basis, and the Cisco Systems Express program delivers documentation to the United States and Canada.

Standard Orders

Documents are shipped from Cisco within 10 working days of order placement. Be sure to provide the following information when placing a purchase order:

If you have further questions or you want to order documentation, you can call 800 553-6387 or 408 526-7208. At the prompt, press 3 to select "Customer Service," and then press 5 to select "Other." You can also send electronic mail to cs-group@cisco.com.

Cisco Systems Express Orders

Cisco provides the Cisco Systems Express program for customers in the United States and Canada. Documentation can be ordered through Standard Express, which provides direct-to-factory ordering. (Note that the Premium Express program cannot be used for documentation).

For an Express order form and instructions on how to order, refer to the section "Cisco Systems Express Program" in the chapter "Ordering Products."

Documentation for Legacy Products

This chapter lists customer documentation that supports the current Cisco Systems enterprise product line described in this catalog. After a product is no longer offered for sale, you can obtain relevant documentation on the Cisco Connection Documentation, Enterprise Series CD. For example, the CD contains documentation that supports Software Releases 8.3, 9.1, 9.14, 9.17, 9.21, and 10.1. Documentation for these software releases includes all publications in the original documentation sets.

Documentation Sets

You can order printed documentation in sets or individually. Documentation sets simplify the process of ordering documentation associated with your specific system. These sets are organized according to standard software (by release and product type), network management software, or special-order documentation. Except for LightStream2020 documentation, hardware documents must be ordered individually.
