Indigo2 (tm) Dual-Head Graphics Oil and Gas Market

Pixel Hungry Applications

Seismic interpretation and modeling applications are hungry for screen real estate. The Indigo2 Dual-Head system was created especially for these demanding applications.

Indigo2 Dual-Head consists of one Indigo2 workstation with two independent graphics sub-systems and two 19-inch full-color monitors. Dual-Head graphics allow you to use one system for detailed seismic analysis and the other system for larger, global analysis.

Affordable Power Desktop Systems

Indigo2 workstations use advanced integrated circuit technologies to increase system performance and reduce cost. Silicon Graphics track record shows improving workstation performance by ten times, every three years, for the same price point. Indigo2 is therefore an extremely powerful yet affordable desktop system.

Fast 2D/3D or 2D/2D

Dual-Head configurations give unsurpassed interactivity. Each screen offers high-resolution (1280 x 1024) and 24-bit true color. Indigo2 Dual-Head has two configurations so you can select the graphics options to match your requirements.

If you need both fast X performance and 3D visualization then XL:Extreme graphics is for you; if you need two fast X heads then XL:XL graphics will meet your needs.

System Architecture for Processing Big Data

The Indigo2 system was designed to handle large data sets. It gives you a balanced blend of all computational resources I/O, processing and bus bandwidth to make your applications run fast.

Dual SCSI ports and disk striping capabilities let you read/write large data volumes. The MIPS RISC R4400(tm) CPU provides raw horse power of up to 136 MIPS and 24 MFLOPS. A 267MB/ sec system bus provides a data highway so you can move big data sets from the network, or disk quickly, without having to take a coffee break.

Moving Volume Visualization onto the Desktop

Our high-end graphics supercomputers have been used in research labs to develop advanced 3D visualization techniques for interpreting seismic data. Now with the affordable Indigo2 Dual-Head, these applications can now be deployed into field use, right on the desktop.

Binary Compatible with Supercomputers and Servers All Silicon Graphics products are binary compatible. This means you can move your applications from desktop systems to supercomputers. The CHALLENGE (tm)series offers up to 4,000 MIPS, 2.7 GFLOPS, and 1,000 GB storage capacity. Silicon Graphics offers a broad range of computers that satisfy all of your computing needs.

Indigo Magic(tm) User Environment

The indigo Magic User Environment combines a unique desktop management system with powerful digital media tools in one user interface.

Indigo Magic digital media tools give you access to graphics, audio, and video communication tools. You can create, capture, and communicate your interpretations and data in ways that are more vivid and compelling than you ever thought possible.

With Indigo Magic you can communicate over computer networks as you do in person; naturally and intuitively. Imagine the power of sending a 3D, color seismic image with a voice narration describing where a drilling target might be, to a colleague. Now you can, with Indigo2 Dual-Head.

* Estimated based on results from single-head system

** These are sustained performance figures based on testing each head (of a
dual-head system) independently. Performance rendering to both
heads simultaneously is data and application dependent.

X/GL Usage Modes:
                 - for binaries compiled Wore IPIX s 1 only one head
                   is supported without recompilation.

                 - X, Open GL, and IRIS GL are
fully supported on both heads. One exception:
                   a single Unix process
may not open WS GL windows on more than one head.
