Documentation CD-ROM

Cisco offers a complete set of Cisco customer documentation and selected marketing material in a CD-ROM package. The CD-ROM package also includes updated bug information, which enables you to avoid problems or diagnose them more quickly.

Note The Documentation CD-ROM is available in two formats; Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) and portable document format (PDF). The HTML version is described here.

With the Cisco CD-ROM package, you can view, search, and print documentation on the following platforms with a CD-ROM drive: 68020, 68030, 68040, or PowerPC-based Macintosh systems, 80386SX or greater PCs, Sun SPARC systems, IBM RS/6000 workstations, and HP 9000 Model 700 or 800 systems. The viewing application conforms to user interface standards for Microsoft Windows and the Macintosh, Motif or OPEN LOOK on Sun SPARC systems and IBM RS/6000 workstations, and OpenView on HP 9000 Model 700 or 800 systems. The Documentation CD-ROM can be mounted on a file server and published across a network.

You can also access the documentation via CCO at http://www.cisco.com.

Navigating the Documentation CD-ROM

The Cisco CD-ROM package is a series of interconnected documents that you navigate by clicking on hypertext links and using navigation tools--the toolbar, the navigation bar, and the document button bar. In addition, the CD-ROM offers a powerful search facility to allow you to jump directly to the information that interests you.

The Documentation CD-ROM also provides several ways to return to documents that you have previously looked at. A history facility allows you to keep track of the documents that you have looked at in the last 60 days and look at them again. You can also save the location of documents that you reference regularly through hypertext links in a hotlist.

The Viewing Environment

Information is stored on the Cisco Documentation CD-ROM in Hypertext Markup Language (HTML). The Netscape browser is provided in the package for a variety of tasks, such as:

Subscription Service

When you place a product order you can request one copy of the Documentation CD-ROM package at no charge. To keep the library current, Cisco offers an annual subscription service. Subscribers receive 12 updated copies of the CD-ROM package per year. Table 19-1 lists the order numbers for the Cisco Documentation CD-ROM package.

Ordering Documentation

Cisco Systems provides two delivery programs: standard and express. The standard program delivers Cisco documentation on a worldwide basis, and the Cisco Systems Express program delivers documentation to the United States and Canada.

Standard Orders

Documents are shipped from Cisco within 10 working days of order placement. Be sure to provide the following information when placing a purchase order:

If you have further questions or you want to order documentation, you can call 800 553-6387 or 408 526-7208. At the prompt, select "Customer Service," and then follow the instructions given in the menu. You can also send electronic mail to cs-group@cisco.com.

Documentation for Legacy Products

This chapter lists customer documentation that supports the current Cisco Systems products described in this catalog. After a product is no longer offered for sale, you can obtain relevant documentation on the Cisco Documentation CD-ROM package. For example, the CD-ROM package contains documentation that supports Software Releases 8.3, 9.0, 9.1, 9.21, 10.0, and 10.1. Documentation for these software releases includes all publications in the original documentation sets.

Documentation Sets

You can order printed documentation in sets or individually. Documentation sets simplify the process of ordering documentation associated with your specific system. These sets are organized according to standard software (by release and product type), network management software, or special-order documentation. Hardware documents must be ordered individually. Table 19-2 lists the order numbers for documentation sets.

Note Cisco IOS documentation sets DOC-SRIOS11.2=, DOC-SRIOS11.1=, DOC-SRIOS11.0=, DOC-SRIOS10.3=, and DOC-SRIOS10.2= include protocol translation documentation. The communication server is not supported in Cisco IOS Releases 10.0 and 10.1. CiscoWorks 3.0 manuals must be ordered individually; they are not available as a documentation set.

Special-Order Documentation

Special-order documentation contains non-release-specific documents that provide value-added information, such as technology overviews, internetwork design guidelines, Cisco case studies, and troubleshooting procedures. Special-order documentation does not ship with initial system orders; it supplements the standard documentation. Special-order documents are updated approximately once a year to include information on new technology and features. Table 19-3 lists the order numbers for special-order documentation.
