UNIX

To install and start the CDs on a UNIX system, perform the following steps:

  1. With the IOS Software Documentation disc inserted in the CD-ROM drive, create a CD-ROM mount point (if you have not done so already). Log in as root and create a root-level directory as follows:
    mkdir /cdrom

  2. Mount the CD-ROM drive as follows, entering your CD-ROM device name in place of device_name :
    For RS/6000: mount -o ro -v cdrfs device_name /cdrom
    For HP 9000: mount -t cdfs device_name /cdrom
    For SunOS: mount -r -t hsfs device_name /cdrom
For Solaris: The CD is automatically mounted onto the /cdrom directory. If the CD does not mount automatically, see the "Solaris Troubleshooting" section later in this booklet.

  3. After the CD-ROM is mounted, change the directory as follows:
    For RS/6000: cd /cdrom/rs6k32
    For HP 9000: cd /cdrom/hp800
    For SunOS: cd /cdrom/sun441
    For Solaris: cd /cdrom/ssol23

  4. To run the installation script, enter the following command:
    install.sh

Note For HP 9000 users: the installation script file will be called INSTALL.SH;1 because of the HP CD-ROM driver. However, to run the file, issue the command as INSTALL.SH/;1, inserting a backslash between the "H" and the ";" so that the semicolon is interpreted as part of the filename.

  1. Enter appropriate responses to the prompts that appear as the installation script runs.

  2. Change your current directory to the location where the CD files are installed, entering the path to the mount point for the CD in place of install_path :
    For RS/6000: cd / install_path /_rs6k32/bin
    For HP 9000: cd / install_path /_hp800/bin
    For SunOS: cd / install_path /_sun441/bin
    For Solaris: cd / install_path /_ssol23/bin

  3. To access the CD contents, enter the command ./vMosaic in the directory where it was installed.

  4. The first time Verity Mosaic is launched, a license agreement will be displayed. Click on YES if you accept the terms of the agreement. The documentation home page is then displayed.

Troubleshooting Your Installation

Solaris Troubleshooting

If the CD does not mount automatically, the vold daemon may not be running.

Note This daemon manages the CD device and automatically mounts the CD.

Verify that the vold daemon is running by entering the following command:

ps -e | grep vold | grep -v grep

If the system does not display anything, vold is not running. Enter the following command to launch the vold daemon:

/usr/sbin/vold &

After the CD is mounted, return to Step 3 of the UNIX instructions to complete the installation.
