FastHub 100 Series Hubs

This chapter provides information on the FastHub 100 series of 100BaseT hubs. The information is organized into the following sections:

Note Documentation for the FastHub 100 series of 100BaseT hubs is available in two forms: on a CD-ROM called Cisco Connection Documentation, Enterprise Series and printed books. A CD and hard-copy installation documentation ship with each chassis, and a configuration note ships with each component ordered. All configuration notes are available on the CD. Additional CDs and a subscription CD update service are also available.

You can also access Cisco technical documentation on the World Wide Web URL http://www.cisco.com. For more information, see the chapter "Documentation" at the end of the catalog.

Product Overview

The FastHub 100 series of standalone 100BaseT hubs, used alone or with Cisco routers and Catalyst switches, provides affordable 100-Mbps performance for a variety of applications including power users, server farms, and high-speed local backbones for switch-based networks. Available in a range of port densities and supporting unshielded twisted-pair (UTP) or fiber cabling, these hubs offer configuration and media flexibility.

The FastHub 100 series of hubs consists of the following models:

Note For information about the FastHub 100+ series of 100BaseT hubs, see the chapter "FastHub 100+ Series Hubs."

Standard Features

The FastHub 100 series hubs support the following standard features:

Supported Applications

FastHub 100 series hubs can function in a wide variety of applications, as follows:

FastHub 100 series hubs can be attached to a 100BaseT port on a Cisco 7000, Cisco 7500, Cisco 4700, or Cisco 4500 series router or Catalyst 1900, Catalyst 2820, Catalyst 2900, Catalyst 3000, or Catalyst 5000 series switch to accommodate power workgroups or a power user with multiple workstations.

With FastHub 100 series hubs, you can affordably build decentralized or centralized high-performance server farms attached to Cisco routers or Catalyst switches. A range of densities (4, 8, or 12 ports) is available to support the appropriate number of servers, with UTP or fiber media options to match installed cabling and distance requirements.

FastHub 100 series hubs can be used to aggregate Catalyst 1900, 2820, or 3000 switches and connect to a 100BaseT port on a Cisco router or Catalyst 5000 switch. A FastHub 100 series can be connected to each Cisco router, or Catalyst 5000 port to aggregate up to 11 Catalyst switches. All interswitch traffic uses the 100BaseT local backbone provided by the FastHub 100 series hub.
