This chapter describes the objectives, audience, organization, and conventions of the Catalyst 5000 Series Configuration Guide and Command Reference.

Cisco documentation and additional literature are available on a CD called Cisco Connection Documentation, Enterprise Series. The CD is updated and shipped monthly so it might be more current than printed documentation. To order the Cisco Connection Documentation, Enterprise Series CD, contact your local sales representative or call Customer Service. The CD is available both as a single CD and as an annual subscription.You can also access Cisco technical documentation on the World Wide Web URL http://www.cisco.com .

Document Objectives

The Catalyst 5000 Series Configuration Guide and Command Reference is designed to help you understand the Catalyst 5000 series switch, initially configure the switch to work in your network, and customize the switch configuration to fit your needs. An alphabetical listing of software commands used to configure and maintain the switch is also provided.

If you are using the Catalyst 5000 series switch in an emulated LAN, you should use this manual in conjunction with the Cisco IOS Release 11.0 documentation set for routers and the LightStream 100 User Guide (3.1).


Audience

This publication is intended as a standalone document for experienced network administrators who are responsible for configuring and maintaining the Catalyst 5000 series switch.
