About This Guide

This section discusses the objectives, audience, organization and conventions of the Router Installation and Configuration Guide.

Cisco documentation and additional literature are available on a CD-ROM called Cisco Connection Documentation, Enterprise Series. The CD is updated and shipped monthly, so it might be more current than printed documentation. To order the documentation CD, contact your local sales representative or call Customer Service. The CD is available both as a single CD and as an annual subscription. You can also access Cisco technical documentation on the World Wide Web URL http://www.cisco.com.


Document Objectives

This publication guides you through initial site preparation, installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of Cisco 1600 series routers.


Audience

This publication is designed for the person installing Cisco 1600 series routers who should be familiar with electronic circuitry and wiring practices and have experience as an electronic or electromechanical technician.

This publication is to be used in conjunction with the Cisco IOS Configuration Guide and Cisco IOS Command Reference publications.

A string is defined as a nonquoted set of characters. For example, when setting up a community string for SNMP to "public" do not use quotation marks around the string or the string will include the quotation marks.


Note Means reader take note. Notes contain helpful suggestions or references to materials not contained in this manual.

fig_1.gif Timesaver This symbol means the described action saves time. You can save time by performing the action described in the paragraph.

fig_2.gif Caution This symbol means reader be careful. In this situation, you might do something that could result in equipment damage or loss of data.

fig_3.gif Warning This warning symbol means danger. You are in a situation that could cause bodily injury. Before you work on any equipment, be aware of the hazards involved with electrical circuitry and be familiar with standard practices for preventing accidents.
