About This Guide
This section describes the objectives, audience, organization, and conventions of the CiscoWorks Administration and Installation Guide on HP OpenView (HP-UX). It also lists related Cisco, Sybase, and HP OpenView publications.
This guide contains procedures for planning, installing, and configuring CiscoWorks on HP-UX, setting up CiscoWorks for your system, and preparing to use CiscoWorks.
For detailed information on using the CiscoWorks applications, refer to the CiscoWorks User Guide and the CiscoWorks Release Note.
This manual is designed for the network administrator responsible for installing, configuring, and verifying CiscoWorks software. The network administrator should be familiar with the following topics:
- Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP)
- A window manager that runs on HP-UX (for example, Motif)
- HP OpenView, version 3.3 or later

The organization of this guide reflects the order in which the tasks should be performed. Worksheets are included as planning and information-gathering tools.
The major sections of this guide are listed below:
- Chapter 1, "Overview and Quick Installation," summarizes the tasks necessary for installation and provides a quick installation process. If you want to perform a quick CiscoWorks installation, without reading a chapter or completing worksheets first, turn to this chapter.
- Chapter 2, "Preparing to Install CiscoWorks on HP-UX," helps you plan your installation and provides worksheets you can use during the installation and configuration process. If you want to customize your CiscoWorks installation, or if you are new to the installation process, read this chapter.
- Chapter 3, "Installing and Configuring CiscoWorks on HP-UX," describes the installation and configuration process in detail. If you are installing CiscoWorks from a remote CD-ROM drive or if you cannot use the quick installation process, follow the instructions in this chapter.
- Chapter 4, "Validating CiscoWorks Installation on HP-UX," describes how to make sure that CiscoWorks has been installed successfully and how to start using CiscoWorks.
- Appendix A, "Error Messages," lists the error messages you might encounter during the installation process and provides recommended actions.
